Introducing: Lupita Nyong'o: A Woman Fighting For Her Skin.

So, every once in a while, A powerhouse figure steps forth, daring to redefine what it is we recognize as societal norms, with their own renditions of normalcy. When this tide occurs, there are only two options, either our Hero is Shut down and cast out, or they are praised, loved and adored. The latter is the case for our Kenyan beauty, Lupita Nyong'o.
This dark skinned Kenyan beauty has soared beyond the simplicities of just being a known face, into the stratosphere of super stardom, but for some reason, the white man seems to be celebrating her success more than her own people.
Why do blacks always feel the need to self sabotage? It's getting ridiculous how desperate we blacks are to bring our own people down... and yes, I am not just speeaking of the Black American community, but the African community as well. I was browsing the internet, trying to learn more about this sensational actress Lupita Nyong'o from Kenya, whom I have loved for YEARS after watching her on Shuga, but is just now getting her shine thanks to 12 years a slave, and was surprised to find so many people either insulting her beautiful dark skin, or tying the facts of her success to the fact that her father is a Kenyan senator, insinuating her bought her fame. How self hating does one have to be, not to realize and appreciate the success of his kin? Are we to also insinuate that Ms. Nyong'os' father bought her all the critical acclaims she has recieved from every role she has undertaken? What about the Golden Globe nomination? The Oscars? The Critics Choice Awards? When will we Africans learn to draw the line between absurdities, facts and fiction?

It is a sad day indeed, when an individuals hardwork, perseverance, and mastery of their craft is easily summarized in a few words such as: "Senator pikin, now I see where the hype , funds and high push came from"

Your thoughts?
